The School Day
Life at St Nicholas is full of exciting challenges. Each child is encouraged to aim for a high standard of academic achievement in a well-structured, disciplined and stimulating environment.
When children enter the between 08:30 and 08:50 they know that their teacher is waiting for them in the classroom. This is a great opportunity for the children to catch-up on any unfinished work and get answers to questions with the support of the teacher.
Children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 have three work sessions and two short breaks in the morning. Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have four lessons and one central break.
The children enjoy their packed lunches at 12:30 0r 13:00 on a rotation basis supervised by lunchtime staff. We work with a local caterer who parents can contact to have their child's lunch delivered daily:
Parents have worked hard and shown great ingenuity and invention where providing interesting and healthy packed lunches is concerned. We emphasize the importance of healthy eating, so chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks are not allowed. We are also a nut-free school.
Before or after lunch the children enjoy a break in the school playground before returning to the classroom for afternoon lessons. The timetable is similar for both age groups.
At the end of the day, the children have the choice of going home at 15:30 (Reception class at 15:15), staying for available clubs or activities (three days per week) or staying on at school until as late as 17:30 in Aftercare.
Aftercare staff provide a wholesome snack and a myriad of games and activities. Older children are also able to finish their homework in Aftercare. If it is warm, children can play outside. Please contact us if you are interested in our Aftercare provision.
