Vision and aims
Choice is one of the most important decisions any parent will make for their children and this is a topic of much discussion and research for families. Many make financial sacrifices to send their children to a good school as they believe it is in their child’s best long term interests. A British Independent education has achieved a worldwide reputation for quality. Research conducted in many countries over the last few years to examine what parents wanted from independent schools revealed the most important factors for parents are: academic opportunities, good order, the development of responsible attitudes, a quality curriculum, pastoral care, outstanding teachers, family values, good programmes and small class sizes.
To achieve this outstanding quality, we believe that that ‘alignment’ of the key components of the organisation, including its mission, vision, values, strategy, structure, systems, and especially the minds and hearts of its people, must be in place for maximum performance. This will ensure high standards and quality outcomes for the children who attend our wonderful school.
St. Nicholas School will be the education of choice in the region for the community, aspiring towards academic and pastoral excellence. Its education will be based upon family values that promote understanding, tolerance and friendship and which encompass the spiritual, educational, social and physical development of students. This education will provide a well-rounded, solid foundation upon which our children can develop to become open-minded, caring, compassionate and responsible citizens.
Our values are:
Our core beliefs
The following core beliefs inform, direct and inspire all of our practice. St Nicholas is a values-based school and will provide opportunities to develop and apply these:
Teaching and Learning
We believe that every member of our community has a right to:
- an ordered learning environment that builds upon prior learning;
- develop independence,
- develop creativity and an enquiring mind and
- foster intellectual and social self-confidence and self-esteem.
We believe that every student has the right to:
- a broad academic curriculum;
- appropriate, stimulating and varied learning strategies, delivered by high quality professional staff;
- opportunities to develop and extend all of their skills, abilities and talents and which result in a wide range and high standard of accredited success.
Preparation for life
To experience and develop skills through collaboration and co-operative working, and have opportunities to develop leadership skills, organisation and confidence.
We believe that our school should provide a nurturing, caring social environment, based on family values, in which the views of all members are heard, valued and respected and in which students are supported in their development.
We believe that our students’ success and happiness in school depends on us working in close partnership with families.
